The Cowichan Valley Grape Escape begins and ends each day at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Shawnigan Lake School is located forty kilometers north of Victoria, British Columbia, just outside of the town of Shawnigan Lake.  To get to Shawnigan Lake School, you must first come to Vancouver Island, either by ferry or by air. Shawnigan Lake School is about an hour's drive from four major ferry terminals and the Victoria International Airport.

Travelling by Ferry to Vancouver Island

Ferries run regularly between Tsawwassen (Greater Vancouver) and Swartz Bay (Victoria), between Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) and Departure Bay (Nanaimo), and between Seattle and the Victoria Inner Harbour.  Click here to view the BC Ferries schedules.

Travelling by Air to Vancouver Island

By air, you can fly into the Victoria International Airport.

Driving from Victoria

Travel North on Highway 1. The road winds through the Goldstream gorge and climbs the Malahat summit. At the end of the Malahat the highway passes through the small town of Mill Bay.  Continue on the highway to the next set of lights.  Turn left at the lights onto Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road.  Follow the Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road all the way into the town of Shawnigan where you will come to a four-way stop.  Turn right at the stop sign onto Shawnigan Lake Road.  Follow this road until it forks at the train tracks.  Follow the road to the left, this is Renfrew Road.  The school will be on your right just past Hartl Rd.

Driving from North Vancouver Island

Head South on Highway 1 toward Victoria. About 20km south of Duncan, turn right at the lights onto Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd.  Follow the Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road all the way into the town of Shawnigan where you will come to a four-way stop.  Turn right at the stop sign onto Shawnigan Lake Road.  Follow this road until it forks at the train tracks.  Follow the road to the left, this is Renfrew Road.  The school will be on your right just past Hartl Rd.

Driving from the Mill Bay Ferry Terminal

When you disembark from the ferry you will be on Mill Bay Rd.  Follow Mill Bay Rd. until you reach the four-way stop at the Mill Bay Shopping Centre.  Turn left onto Deloume Rd.  Take the first right at the lights onto Hwy 1.  Get into the left lane.  Turn left at the lights onto Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road.  Follow the Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road all the way into the town of Shawnigan where you will come to a four-way stop.  Turn right at the stop sign onto Shawnigan Lake Road.  Follow this road until it forks at the train tracks.  Follow the road to the left, this is Renfrew Road.  The school will be on your right just past Hartl Rd.
