No roads will be closed during this event so participants are required to follow the rules of the road. The following tips are ways to make sure you have the safest ride possible while enjoying the beautiful Cowichan Valley.
Follow the Rules of the Road and Ride Safe:
- Stop at all stop lights and stop signs
- Signal all turns and stops
- Ride with, not against traffic
- Ride single file
- Turn your rear red bike light on while riding to increase your visibility to motorists
- Do not wear musical devices which could impede your hearing while riding
- Avoid drafting and pacing lines
- Use hand signals to point out upcoming road hazards to those behind you - broken glass, pot holes, etc.
Take Care of Yourself While Riding:
- Rest when needed (Points of Interest and Rest stops are great places to catch your breath)
- Ensure your bike is in good mechanical condition before arriving at the event - grab a tune-up from your local bike shop
- Plan your route and train for the distance you plan on riding - a few training rides in preparation will make your weekend more enjoyable
- Very Important - Keep hydrated, maintain your electrolytes, and make sure to eat during the day
- Ride for enjoyment at a safe and comfortable speed within your skill level
*Our tour features stops at various wineries at which eligible riders may choose to sample some of the wines; however all cyclists are required to abide by the Motor Vehicle Act which limits the consumption of alcohol and concurrently operating a moving vehicle. The MS Society requests all riders to act responsibly during the tour and accepts no liability for those who do not.
